Why Leaders Are Prioritizing Master Data Management

What impacts are enterprise leaders seeing from the presence or absence of effective data management?

Data is one of a business’s most valuable assets, like its customer relationships or its intellectual property or its real estate — but in many ways, is much harder to manage. Account details, email addresses, financial information — data is flowing into enterprises at accelerating speed and volume, creating complexity and disorganization despite the tools many companies use for data management.

Enterprise leaders need to base important decisions on that data, but the challenges of data management are degrading data quality and trust. This presents decision makers with serious obstacles as they strive for stability and growth in a volatile business climate.

In a study commissioned by Dun & Bradstreet, Forrester Consulting* asked global enterprise leaders responsible for data management strategy about some of those obstacles. They responded candidly, listing missed growth opportunities, security lapses, and damaged brand reputation as consequences of insufficient data management. They also described specific benefits they believed their organizations would see from master data management and better data quality.
